December 10, 2002 NEWS-LEADER OzarksNow.com OBITUARIES Cledith M. Smittle Cledith M. Smittle, daughter of Jesse H. and Mamie J. Prock Massey, was born April 12, 1906 in Grovespring, Wright County, and departed this life on December 7, 2002.

On March 21, 1925, she was united in marriage to Glen Smittle. Cledith spent her early life living on a farm in Wright County, Mo. and in 1 1946, moved to Springfield, Mo. to make her until 1991, when she moved to Tulsa, Okla. and in 1998 moved to Bolingbrook, Ill.

and lived with her daughter and family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo. She is a past member of the Eastern Star Lodge in Strafford, Mo. During her early years, she taught school in Wright County, and later was employed many years for the Springfield, Mo. school dis- Cledith is survived by one daughter, Mrs.

Dorothy C. Robert N. Follis of Bollingbrook, two sons, Chester L. and wife Merna E. of Springfield, Mo.

and Donald E. and wife Betty J. of Tulsa, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Virgie Smittle of Grovespring, eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, in 1977; one sister, Mrs.

Lottie E. Massey and husband Elemer J. Smittle; and two brothers, Easten M. and Orville D. Massey.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2002 in Theime-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Colonial Chapel, Lebanon, with Rev. Myron Fesler officiating the service. Visitaiton will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

She was born May 1, 1920 in Springfield, to Tom and Frances Fielder. She married Clarence Lawson on October 17, 1941.

She was a homemaker, and a member of Rods Relics Street Rod Club and Immanuel Baptist Church. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Lawson; her parents; a brother, Henry Fielder; and a daughter, Nancy Ward. Survivors include two children, JoAnn Brotherton and husband Allen of Flemington, and Tom Lawson and wife Carol of Springfield; nine grandchildren; 15 greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Wylma Alberty and husband Frank of Springfield. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2002 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

She was a beautiful Christian woman who gave SO much love to her family and church. She was born February 17, 1930 in Springfield, Cecil and Lucille (Cochran) Banta. She graduated at Springfield Senior High School where she excelled and won awards and recognition for her typing abilities.

She married Don Rueckheim, her loving husband, September 11, 1960 who was such a comfort and support to her for many years and who she loved greatly. They have one daughter who they gave great ioy in and raised in a wonderful Christian home with so much love. Rosa Lee held various secretarial positions but the one she most enjoyed and that was important to her was her position as the District Secretary for the Nazarene Church. A member of Ozark Nazarene Church and former member of Springfield First Nazarene, her strong faith in God and love for her church was a wonderful testimony for those around her. She is survived by her only daughter, Lisa Byerly and her family, Lloyd Burdick children Corey, Caleen and Michael, all of Ozark, Mo.

Her grandchildren gave her SO much comfort and peace all through life. She extended her family seven years ago with Mitchell, Maraih and Matt who she opened her heart to, her sister, Cecilia Adam of Topeka, Kan, and her beautiful "Sister in Christ" Mary Walker who was a wonderful and true friend for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Rueckheim; her mother and father; and her uncles, James Cochran of Republic, Mo. and Al Cochran of California. She had many special angels God gave her to help her through her illness.

A special thank you to Debbie K. and Robin for all the love and dignity they showed my mom during her stay in the nursing home. Alma who prayed with her daily, Pat her bingo buddy and her recent angels Marilyn, Alice, John and Edna from hospice who were a great comfort to her and the family. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Greenlawn Funeral Home South Chapel with Rev.

Ken Chamberlain officiating. Burial will be in Brookline Cemetery. No formal visitation is planned. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Louis "Dale" Gordon Louis "Dale" Gordon, 80, Springfield, died at 6:08 p.m. December 7, 2002 in Cox South hospital. The son of George and Hazel Gordon, he was born May 31, 1922 in Fort Scott, Kan. Dale was an office manager for the Frisco Railroad where he worked for 41 years. He was a WWII U.S.

Army veteran having served in the European Theater and was recipient of three bronze stars. He also was a member of University Heights Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Gordon, to whom he was married May 2, 1944; two sons and their wives, Donald and Susan Gordon, Pleasant Hope, and Kent and Joyce Gordon, Nixa, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandchild. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m.

He was born March 3, 1912 in St. Louis, the son of Ben and Bessie Savanofsky Federow. He attended St. Louis Central High School. In 1933, he graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Rolla School of Mines, which is now the University of Missouri-Rolla.

He worked for Shell Oil Company several years prior to starting his own business, Federow Iron and Metal Compnay, which he co-founded with his father in 1937. He married Annette Richman on April 4, 1948. He was a member of Kiwanis, Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. He was a past president of the Missouri B'nai and B'rith and was a charter member of the Mayor's Commission on Human Rights. In addition to these accomplishments, he also served his country as a member of the U.S.

Navy during World War 11, stationed in Guam. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Lisa Federow, the wife of Stuart. Harry is survived by his wife, Annette Federow, of the home; three sons, Harold Louis and wife Norine Federow, Seattle, Michael Robert and wife, Karen Federow, Chicago, and Rabbi Stuart Alan Federow, Missouri City, Texas; six grandchildren; and a close friend, R. Basuki Solomon (Sulaeman) S. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m.

She was born July 23, 1907 in Christian County, the daughter of Lorenza and Margaret (Couch) Maples.

She was married to Irving Bolin October 14, 1925. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church in Nixa. She loved spending time with her family, gardening, needlework, reading and attending church.

Because of her loving spirit, she was an inspiration to everyone. Survivors include five children and their spouses, Juanita and Orville Tennis, Nixa, Betty and Harold Rainey, Springfield, Ava and Bob Haworth, Nixa, Jerry and Linda Bolin, Nixa, and Kathy and Jim Holland, Nixa; nine grandchildren, 13 greatgrandchildren, six greatgreat-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren and 21 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, in Adams Funeral Home, Nixa, with Rev. Joseph Fahl officiating.

Burial will follow in McConnell Cemetery, Nixa. At Mrs. Bolin's request, no formal visitation is planned. Friends may call from 1 to 8 today in the funeral home. no charge.

Saturday, December 7, 2002 in Cox South hospital. Dorothy was born April 13, 1921 in lantha, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Dickson) Suiter. Dorothy was retired from the Greene County Children's Home where she had served as a house parent. She enioyed crocheting and loved to make special items for those she loved and cared for. She was a member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God of Springfield.

She was united in marriage to Harold T. Wynn who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Olie Suiter. Survivors include her children, Leora Wessling and husband John of Wichita, Ileta Galindo and husband Sammy of Pittsburg, Harold A. Wynn and wife Sharon of Diamond, Ruth Highfill and husband Freddie of Cape Fair, and Mark A.

Wynn and wife Marilyn of San Jose, Calif. Wilson was born August 18, 1911 in Kansas City, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Edgar Irvin Ailor. Following graduation from Northeast High School in Kansas City, she received an A.B. degree from Drury College, Springfield, in 1934; a B.S.

in Science from Southwest Missouri State College, Springfield; and a M.A. degree from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau. Mrs. Wilson taught Home Economics, English, and Science in the Sparta, Chadwick, Clever and Perryville, Mo. high schools for more that 25 years.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Jefferson City, and had been active in St. Mary's Guild, Altar Guild, as Diocean Delegate and the ReSell- It Shop; Order of the Eastern Star Fidelis Beta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa; Cole County Chapter of Retired Teachers; Jefferson City Art Club and the Jefferson City Council on the Arts. Before retiring to Jefferson City in 1975, she had been active on a District and State level in the Auxiliary to the Ozark Chapter of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and in the Sixth District Missouri Federation of Women's Clubs. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her children and their spouses, Bill and Sherry Simpson, Tunnel Hill, Jeremiah Simpson, Sevierville, and Jennifer Wilson MacAdams, River Heights, Utah; four grandchildren; one sister and one brother.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, Jefferson City, conducted by the Rev. Harvel R. Sanders, Rector. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of Ponders Funeral Home, 138 Melrose Drive, Dalton, Ga.

Jack was united in marriage to Norma Jane Threlkeld of Jefferson City, May 31, 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII after which he attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. He began a 36 year career with TWA where he served as pilot, administrator and instructor. He was recognized with awards for excellence by his fellow pilots as both domestic and international pilot of the year. Mr.

Clark was active in King's Way United Methodist Church and also civic affairs in Springfield. He was a member of the Old Pilots Monday Lunch Bunch, The Quiet Birdmen, Korean War Veteran's Association and the Springfield Men's Bridge Group. He was a lifelong avid fisherman. Jack celebrated life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Jane Clark; a daughter, Carol and husband, J.R.

Louis University High School in 1948 where he was state champion in the high hurdles. He graduated from St. Louis University in 1952. He served as lieutenant in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1954. Leo was Controller at Monsanto Chemical Company for 20 years; Vice President of Finance for Borg Warner Health Care Products for 10 years; and retired from the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mount Vernon, Mo.

as Controller in 1992. He is survived by his spouse, Carolyn (Faulkner); children, Thomas Phipps of St. Louis, and Kathleen Lechner of St. Charles, granddaughters, Jennifer Lechner and Michelle Lechner of St. Charles, and brother, Joseph J.

Phipps of Florissant, Mo. He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Jane; and sister, Ann. He was a dear uncle, cousin, brother-in-law and friend. The body has been cremated. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m.

James Edwin "Ed" Hood, Jr. James Edwin "Ed" Hood, age 58, of Nixa, passed away on Sunday, December 1 8, 2002. Ed was born on November 6, 1944 in Carthage, the son of James Edwin Hood and Leo Jane Hood Storm. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Storm; his stepfather, Fred Storm; and a several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ed was in the Army and a member of the U.S.

Special Forces and served in the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart Award. He was a very special person and will be missed by all who knew him. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Calvin Huffman; and two daughters, Jeanette and Betty. Helen is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Kay Lipe and Barbara Marsh, both of Springfield; three sons, Ronald Huffman, Donald Huffman and Gary Huffman, all of Springfield; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Sissie.
