JUMP TO RECIPE
Sweet and tangy, this orange honey mustard dressing is delicious on salads, as a dip for chicken nuggets, or drizzled over cooked chicken or fish. 5 ingredients and 5 minutes is all you need to whip up this versatile dressing!
Quick. Simple. Tasty.
That's what a salad dressing should be.
And we've all heard of honey mustard dressing.
But I've added a special touch to this one...freshly squeezed orange juice!
5 Ingredients and 5 Minutes
Pay attention now.
All you need for this dressing is fresh squeezed orange juice, dijon mustard, mayonnaise, honey, and apple cider vinegar. That is it. You could add some fresh ground black pepper to the dressing, if desired, but it's not necessary.
The dijon mustard and the honey are a given for this dressing, considering the name. The mayonnaise adds a bit of body and creaminess. The apple cider vinegar adds that bit of tang that you want in a dressing. And the orange juice adds a citrus-y brightness that blends well with the other flavors.
And all you need is 5 minutes to put it all together. Either put all the ingredients in a bowl or measuring cup and whisk it, or dump it all in a jar, seal it up and shake it like crazy.
Use it for more than just salad
Obviously, this dressing goes great on salads. However, think out of the box and use it to drizzle over cooked chicken or fish, or mix a bit with some mayo before spreading it on bread for sandwiches. And while it's not a thick dressing, it works as a decent dip for chicken nuggets.
You can add this to your list of other dressing recipes for livening up your salads, like Sweet and Tangy Balsamic Vinaigrette or Creamy Greek Yogurt Caesar Dressing, or Orange Poppyseed Dressing! You definitely won't have any boring salads when you've got dressings like these.
And that's it! Simple ingredients, super easy, and delicious.

Besides being delicious on salads, it also makes a tasty dip for chicken nuggets or vegetables, and it adds a refreshing tang when drizzled over grilled chicken fish, or fried eggs. - ¼ cup fresh squeezed orange juice (about ½ one large orange)
- ⅓ cup dijon mustard
- 2 tbs honey
- 2 tbs mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- Fresh ground black pepper
Equipment
Instructions
Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly with a whisk until smooth. Alternatively, add all the ingredients to a jar or salad dressing shaker and shake until well blended.
Store dressing in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir well before use.
Notes
- Mix the dressing ingredients in a measuring cup or bowl using a whisk, or add all the ingredients to a jar or salad dressing shaker and shake vigorously.
- For a more citrus flavor, gently grate some of the orange skin and add the zest to the dressing.
- If you prefer a slightly thicker dressing, add only half the amount of orange juice or omit the orange juice and just add orange zest.
- Different brands of dijon mustard can have varying levels of "mustard flavor" or spiciness. Use less or more depending on your taste.
- Add more mayonnaise or honey, if desired.
- Store in a jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, stirring before use.
- Drizzle it over cooked chicken or fish.
- Use it in your sandwiches or burgers.

Is 1/3 cup dijon mustard correct?

Lisa
Hi Melanie! Yes, 1/3 cup dijon mustard is correct. If you want, you can always put less, perhaps 1/4 cup, but you will not have as much of the mustard flavor coming through. Thanks for asking!

Can I use olive oil for this dressing recipe, rather than mayonnaise? It’s healthier. Thanks!

Hi Patti! Definitely give it a go with olive oil, if you prefer it over mayonnaise. The only thing is that it may be less creamy and the flavor won't be exactly the same...but it's totally worth trying! Thanks for the question!

Too much Dijon mustard for my taste. Next time will reduce it to 1 tbsp. The mustard taste over -powering.Reply
Lisa
Hi Beth! I have found that different brands of dijon mustard can vary in terms of "mustard flavor strength" which can affect the flavor. By all means, play with the recipe until you find the flavor you're happiest with! Thanks for trying it!

I love honey mustard (especially for chicken strips hehe, I'm still a kid at heart!) The addition of orange juice would give it freshness and a citrus note. Look forward to trying this recipe!
