Overpriced and Ungrateful 2/4/2011

Guardian Angel was a GREAT thrift store a year and a half ago. They have become so overpriced that I don't shop there anymore. What's worse, when I go to donate items, they pick through things and make me take 1/2 the items back because they are on some sort of "banned item" list. GFC and With Love From Jesus take everything we donate (and we don't donate junk -ever!). Most recently we tried to donate a perfectly fine, small desk. A man with just a couple of teeth came out and told us it's too scratched and we'd have to take it back home. There's no appreciation for the donors. \r I loved finding little treasures at GAT and knowing I was supporting Alzheimer's research but I just can't afford them anymore. more

When I see a change! 9/14/2010

Well after reading the reviews about over pricing items I'm not sure that I want to waste my gas driving out from Fayetteville to check your store out. I will keep an eye on your reviews and maybe when I see a change, I will have a change of mind! Lower your prices, it sounds like that would make everyone happy! Thank you. more

great store for hard times!!!! 8/10/2010

great store!!! Cashiers are very friendly and nice! I read the reviews and what people don't realize is that if everything was dirt cheap there would be nothing to donate to charity! I heard comments like "they get this for free" and "that they are pigs charging this much"... well think about the cost of running the business and paying the bills! This is a non profit organization people!!! If you think the prices are too high shop elsewhere! I'm sure those poor cashiers get so tired of hearing complaints about this or that, and still they always manage to smile and thank you. This is a great shop and I have found many treasures within their walls. Keep up the good work! more

No longer a customer 8/9/2010

Overprices, poor service and UPPity staff. They have forgotten their mission. \rGood quality for a good price. Now the motto is \rOver Priced, poor quality and confuse the customer by splitting the merchandise between two over priced stores. Go to Roses, Walmart, Kohls and get a good buy. Don't shop here it was once a good store reached a $1.0 million donation and it went to their head. more

PROS AND CONS 4/5/2010

I like the store for the most part. I am a regular customer. There is a lot of variety. I think the clothes are reasonably priced. I have found my grandson namebrands such as OLD NAVY and GAP.\r I do think some of the household items are a little overpriced. I saw a box of SWIFFER DRY CLOTHS half empty for $4.00, I can get a whole box for that in the grocery store. These items are donated for free.\r I love the book and magazine dept. I also like it when I see they are constantly bringing out new stuff. I have stopped going to one thrift store because they didn't keep stuff updated.\r I like the people who cashier, but have found one of the floor people a little rude. Thank You! more

When I first went to GAT three years ago, I really liked it. But in the past year in particular it's gone downhill drastically. The prices are crazy - but NOT in a good way. All of the furniture is WAY overpriced, some are close to new prices for really used items and the rest is just unreal for used & their conditions! I don't know who is doing their pricing or how they get their prices, but they need to realize they're not selling new items with retail prices. My last visit was last week, so this is a current review of the store! Some of the Tupperware they had were sets being sold individually and together it was higher than Tupperware's original *retail* price! Being a former Tupperware consultant, I quickly brought this to their attention, but they only offered to knock $0.25 off per item, which was still higher than the original retail price. All of the "New with Tags" clothing items sold in the front racks are overpriced for a thrift store and like the previous reviewer sai more

Good cause... not so good items 8/22/2009

The last review was from two years ago. Did the place go downhill? I went for the first time on 8/21/09 and was not impressed. The clothing was very worn. A lot of it was Wal-Mart brand. I could buy it new there on clearance for $2-3. The furniture was awful too. It was overpriced and dated. They had particle board TV stands for $25. They should have been $5-10. There was also children's furniture that had crayon all over it and lots of grime. The stuff was one step away from a landfill. I wanted to like it... I really did! It's for a good cause and I love to thrfit. But this place didn't do it for me. I ended up going to another thrift shop downtown that was much better! more

Expensive! 2/3/2009

While their staff friendliness has improved slightly, their furniture and collectibles are incredibly expensive. Don't go there expecting to buy anything for cheaper than antique store prices. In most cases the furniture is not in very good condition, and they STILL have it priced in the hundreds. more

Wonderful! 8/15/2007

My mom was here from Pennsylvania and we stopped at Guardian Angel and we were there for hours! It is the best thrift shop I have ever visited. They alphabetize their books by author! They even have a section for school items. I am a teacher and saved quited a bit! They are raising money for Alzheimer's disease and that is a great cause. Thanks. more

Thanks 7/17/2007

Thanks to the community for your outpouring of good donation and our shoppers for supporting our efforts to raise funds for Alzheimers Research--$750,000 so far.\r We cater to all, many like the thrill of the find, while many trully need to find treasures to make ends meet.\rThanks again. more

GREAT thrift store with loads of things to buy 11/21/2005

Just went in this weekend, looking for clothes for my daughter so she could have something to wear at daycare and (me) not to worry about the clothes getting ruined. What a find!I have to say that I did go on a Sat afternoon and probably got the tail end of the merchandise - but I was able to find several cute tops for my daughter and found a toy or two that were practically a steal! One of the women who was putting out clothes said that they get a great deal of donations, and to check back often if there was a specific something I was looking for (I was - Leapfrog toys). Their clothing prices are reasonable - $1.25/piece if no buttons or zippers or $2/piece with buttons or zippers; $3 for a 2-pice outfit and if it's new, they have a 1/2 price deal where you take 1/2 the price of the lowest marked price on the tag. The toys were maked - so it will vary, but I almost bought a $30 trike (Kettler brand) for $4.PROS: Great selectionCONS: Need to check often if you are looking more

Wonderful, clean thrift store! 9/1/2005

This thrift store is one of the better ones in the area. It is clean, well set-up, and the people go out of their way to make the process smooth. They have a large variety of items there - we moved from Massachusetts with only a van load and have found many great items at this thrift store.PROS: Clean, organized.CONS: None more

The Best Kept Secret of Fuquay Varina 4/6/2005

Do you have small children that are constantly outgrowing their clothes - or teenagers that are looking for reasonably priced jeans? Are you looking for some inexpensive furniture to transform into a one-of-a-kind shabby chic work of art or maybe that last souvenir state plate or Holly Hobby piece to finish out your collection? Or maybe you just like an old fashioned bargain like I do. The Guardian Angel Thrift Store is one of the largest stores of its kind in our area. It carries everything from Christmas decorations to clothes to furniture to literally the kitchen sink! And the best thing about it is the inventory is constantly changing. You never know what treasures you will find within its walls! Check it out! It's a great place to shop for just about anything. more
