Jorge Barrera, EPISD School Board President, was elected to the Board on November 8, 2016. Mr. Barrera graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 1997 and furthered his education at Texas A&M University, where in 2003 he earned a Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering degree. During his duration at Texas A&M, Mr. Barrera became President of Walton Hall and President of the Residence Hall Association (RHA). In 2006, he began working for Eagle Pass Water Works System as the Regional Water Treatment Plant Process Engineer and on June 30th 2011 he became General Manager of Eagle Pass Water Works System. Aside from serving the board, Mr. Barrera is currently a Board Member of the Rio Grande Regional Water Planning Group (Region M), member of the Rio Grande Watermaster Advisory Committee, Board Member of the Eagle Pass Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Southwest Texas Junior College Engineering Advisory Committee. Mr. Barrera has been married for nine years to Sylvia L. Barrera and have three children. Sons Jorge Barrera III, Gael Barrera, and daughter Damaris Barrera.

Hilda P Martinez, Vice President of the EPISD School Board, is a pharmacist at “Luna’s Friendly Pharmacy”. Mrs. Martinez was elected to the EPISD School Board on November 4, 2014. Mrs. Martinez, a 1990 Eagle Pass High School graduate, began her career in Pharmacy in 1995 when she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas, College of Pharmacy. Before returning to her home town, Mrs. Martinez worked as a pharmacist for several years at an “HEB” pharmacy in San Antonio, Texas. From 1997 to 2001, Mrs. Martinez was the head pharmacist at “Walmart” in Eagle Pass, Texas. Soon thereafter, Mrs. Martinez chose to become part owner of “Luna’s Friendly Pharmacy” and in 2001 she established the locally owned and operated pharmacy with the name “Friendly Pharmacy”. Mrs. Martinez and her husband, have three children, Gunnar, Collin, and Sienna Sky. All three children attend school within the Eagle Pass Independent School District.

Dr. Hector Alvarez, EPISD School Board Secretary, was elected to the Board in November 2012. Dr. Alvarez is a local health-care practitioner who owns a dental practice in Eagle Pass, Texas. Dr. Hector Alvarez has been practicing Dentistry for 16 years. Born and raised in Eagle Pass, Texas, Dr. Alvarez attended Eagle Pass High School and was a varsity cross country and track athlete. After high school, Dr. Alvarez earned a track and cross country scholarship to University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA). As a freshman athlete at UTSA, Dr. Alvarez was awarded Conference Champion at the Trans American Athletic Conference. Dr. Alvarez graduated from UTSA with a degree in Science and Biology. He was accepted to Marquette University, School of Dentistry, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1999, Dr. Alvarez graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree. Dr. Alvarez has actively served in several community organizations. He is a mentor for young EPISD cross country and track athletes who are preparing for competitions. Dr. Alvarez is also very committed to spiritual health. He currently serves as an ACTS member and is active within his local church. Dr. Alvarez and his wife, Lucy have been married for 20 years and have four children. Hector, Larissa, Ana Christina and Alex. His eldest son, Hector, is a cross country athlete at the University of Incarnate Word.

Lupita Fuentes, a Board Trustee of Eagle Pass Independent School District, has served on the School Board since May 2003. Ms. Fuentes is also the Maverick County and Kinney County Director of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). She has been employed with “United Medical Centers” for 33 years. Ms. Fuentes, received her Vocational Nurses license in 1982. Ms. Fuentes’ commitment and service to the community is reflected by her extensive resume to include: Past Secretary and current Chairperson of the Maverick County Appraisal District, Member of the American Cancer Society; Co-Chair of Relay for Life for 3 consecutive years; Served as a Delegate of The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB); Member of the Texas Association of Local WIC Directors (TALWD); Texas WIC Program Region 8 Representative and Member of the National WIC Association (NWA). Ms. Fuentes is also a proud member of “TEAM of 8”, and is a strong advocate for the children and employees of our District following the same motto and stance since her induction to the board in 2003 - “Excellence in Education!” Ms. Fuentes, is the proud mother, of twins, Manrique Jr., and Kristina and son Victor Adrian. She is also the proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren.

Glenna Purcell, a Board Trustee of the Eagle Pass Independent School District, was appointed to the School Board after the passing of her husband, Lynn Purcell, a significant member of the community and a board trustee himself. Ms. Purcell chose to serve on the board as her husband did and was elected in 2010 and 2012. Ms. Purcell worked within the school district for 28 years before she chose to retire. Currently, Ms. Purcell is the Treasurer of the “First United Methodist Church”, where she is an active member of her congregation. In addition, Ms. Purcell is a member of the “Maverick County Retired School Personnel Association”. Ms. Purcell also serves as a member of the “Maverick County Junior Livestock Show Association”. Ms. Purcell, a west Texas native, moved to Eagle Pass, Texas, 47 years ago and has since lived and thrived within our community. Ms. Purcell believes education begins at the home and is cultivated in the school. She is committed to the students and employees of our school district and is very proud of the successes of our students. Due to her extensive experience as a former employee of EPISD, Ms. Purcell is very aware of the hard work and dedication required in order to facilitate the many achievements of our students. Ms. Purcell has three children who are all educators within EPISD. She is a proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren, of which six are current students within the school district. Ms. Purcell’s oldest grandchild, Chelsi, graduated from C.C. Winn High School in June 2015 and is currently attending Texas A&M in College Station.

Christopher Hiller, Board Trustee of Eagle Pass Independent School District was elected to the Board on November 8, 2016. Mr. Hiller graduated from Eagle Pass High School in 2000 and began working for his family business, A.E. Hiller & Sons, Inc., in 2001 as a superintendent. As the years progressed, Mr. Hiller moved into the Senior Estimator position and oversees the day to day operations of the company. He also holds the title of owner and Vice-President and is proud to be a part of a company that has been providing Maverick County citizens with jobs since 1950. Mr. Hiller has been married for 15 years to Magaly Hiller and they have 4 children, Christopher Jr., Ashlynn, Caethan, and Audryna, who all attend schools in EPISD.
